START OF SEASON OWN GOAL - CITY 'BAN' ONE OF ITS MAIN REPORTERS

Just as we thought it was safe to put the summer of nonsense and politics aside at Cardiff City, the club brought it racing back into the limelight by imposing a partial ban on one of the club's main newspaper reporters. Steve Tucker covers The Bluebirds for The Echo and Western Mail but has been told he cannot attend press conferences anymore after an "offending" article in Thursday's Western Mail.

It is a move which never achieves anything and often earns the club more critcism and messageboard aggrieved reaction bears that out.

Tucker and the club have 'previous' - he has annoyed Dave Jones and Peter Ridsdale by asking questions others wouldn't, by not publishing club propoganda and generally, as a dyed in the woll Cardiff City fan with years on the terrace himself, having the insight into how fans feel.

However writing a pre-season review in yesterday's Western Mail, Tucker seems to have pushed the club over the edge but why? To me, it's an innocuous piece, have a read for yourself.

I read that article a couple of time to try and find out what was so offensive to jusify of ban, whether partial or full.

After all, Tucker has stated he likes the look of the new signings, the pre-season football and results were very promising, he applauded City's attempts to get some of the players they tried for.

But you can't deny there have been a series of public embarrassing events too this summer - well Ridsdale might but nobody else is!

The only comments that could cause any annoynace is his comment that Peter Ridsdale was overpaid (and he certainly was no matter how much he protests otherwise and has his mate Keith Harris to back him) and it was good news Robbie Fowler bailed out (Jones perhaps wouldn't agree but most of the rest of us would).

Of all the many critical articles about Cardiff City and of all the criticism of the country's football clubs in local and national media, I don't think Tucker's story - with the rallying cry of let's get back to the football and hallejuah - would register 0.1 on the Richter scale.Ultimately, when clubs ban its reporters, it's never a good thing.

What pompous, ridiculous and unecessary officialdom by Cardiff City. I await my ban now!!!
