BOTHROYD STANDS BY CITY AND SNUBS A PREMIERSHIP CHANCE

After a summer of Cardiff City thinking they had players coming to the club only for them to then talk to another and sign for them, it would seem that Jay Bothroyd joined Ross McCormack in bucking the trend.

McCormack, like Marcus Bent, was approached by Birmingham City after agreeing a deal with The Bluebirds but, unlike Bent, decided to keep his word.

Bothroyd was deep in talks with League One Leeds (I still love that --- League One Leeds!) when Cardiff made their move for a player linked all summer long with City but obviously a little down their list. It would seem he verbally agreed to come here at the weekend but Prem new boys (and one season stayers!) Hull City made a late move. However Bothroyd told them he was already coing here.

Fans always assume this has everything to do with showing loyalty and being a man of his word, the media will play on this too, but I'm now cynical enough and old enough to believe that is probably the last reason - I'd suggest you can assume it was one, a combination off all of the following reasons;

- Better pay/more money with Cardiff City

- A better, longer contract (I doubt Hull were offering the three year deal he has at Ninian Park)

- A racing certainty that he will get more first team outings at Cardiff in the Championship.

If the deal works out, be grateful whatever the reasons were.
