COOPER DECLINES MLS OFFERS & STILL BEING TOUTED IN EUROPE

As Cardiff City prepare to kick-off their Championship season, the most recent striker to decline their overtures, American MLS Star Kenny Cooper, still appears to have an unresolved future.

After FC Dallas and the player jointly declined a sale to either Rosenborg of Norway or City, it seemed certain a new wage deal would be struck for the hit man reputedly only earning £40,000 a year who would earn considerably more than that in a month at Ninian Park.

However talks are floundering and Cooper has, so far, declined new offers believed to increased his salary to around £200k which would remain, perhaps, less than a third of his potential wages with Cardiff. It prompted the payer's father to declare, "It comes down to everybody having a value, everybody having a worth. Either people accept it and pay you what you're worth or you move on. That's just the way life is."

"I think what makes it very simple is if Kenny goes over to Europe, he is making over a million a year. He is not asking for anything that other people haven't recognised as his worth. It's not just what we feel, it's what proven teams from around the world feel his value is."

As negotiations continue, the player's agent is understood to have flown to Europe and is believed to be trying to attract new offers and interest from other clubs increasing speculation that he may yet be at a European club in this transfer window after that appeared to have been 'dead in the water' just a week ago.

Cooper Snr. commented about City's recent interest yesterday - "I'm aware of what kind of club Rosenborg is and the interest from Cardiff. I'm aware of both teams' quality and tradition and past. Cardiff was in the FA Cup final last year and Rosenborg has been a dominant team in Norway so I'm flattered to hear of their interest."

Whatever is going on, it does seem likely Cooper never had any intention of coming to Cardiff, the gut feel is that we were used to drum up interest, player profile and it has certainly helping to significantly up his pay - whether he stays or moves.

Just another one to forget as far as we're concerned after Dave Jones officially gave up on it last week.
