Oh Oh Oh, it's Oakes

It's looking very much like Cardiff City will be going into this weekend's important Championship encounter at home to Sheffield Wednesday with Michael Oakes between the sticks (of metal!) as the club look to be back at Square One for a custodian.

I doubt even Dave Jones himself would now dispute that City should have tried better to retain Neil Alexander after the gaffer made several attempts to get a new number 1 but failed with the lot until, last minute gamble, he plumped for Ross Turnbull. Turnbull went back/was sent back (take your pick) to Boro so Jones looked at Oakes who isn't the worst keeper but doesn't inspire either or given fans or his defence the assurance they need.

Kasper Schmeicel, at last, appeared to be the answer but with his loan spell ended, Jones' main target replacement - Ben Alnwick at Spurs - opted for a loan at Leciester instead while checks on a Polish keeper in Scotland proved to be a wasted trip too.

With time running out, Oakes looks set to keep the gloves he wore at Chasetown last weekend but in the sure knowledge that Jones has been trying to bring someone else in. Hardly a good situation but it has to be resolved sharp, unfortunately time is running out for a fix before this weekend.
