The very last ball out of the bag was that of The Bluebirds with a barely exciting but very winnable opportunity even if, once again, City face life of the road.
That 4th round visit to Prention Park – Tranmere inspired by a certain Jason Koumas who scored the final goal in a 3-1 defeat for City (our goal a Graham Kavanagh penalty) wasn’t our last FA Cup clash against them as we were back next season in the second round for a 2-2 draw in which Tranmere’s equaliser came from Simon ‘Bambi’ Haworth before The Bluebirds triumphed 2-1 in a Ninian Park replay replay thanks to a Ginger Double from Andy Campbell and James Collins.
City have never played Hereford in the FA Cup and only ever lost there (notwithstanding Welsh Cup action) on their first ever visit in 1976, nine visits since have produced 4 wins and 5 draws for City, the last time being a 1-1 draw in 1997, Gareth Stoker scoring for City against his previous club but then getting sent off minutes later.
Hereford got a fine 1-1 draw at Prenton Park last weekend but whoever wins the replay, it’s a potential banana skin. On the other hand, it provides a good chance for us to make the fifth round and have a shot at a quarter-final berth.
