Purse - Should He Stay or Should He Go?

Cardiff City have clarified Darren Purse dilemma by admitting he is not being offered a new contract at this stage but they want him to stay at the club and review matters this summer.

You can understand the problem from both sides.

Darren Purse is struggling to maintain standards required for a leading Championship side who may yet advance to the Premiership this season and won't get any better so a new contract now isn't great business. However, with no other centre-half (apart from the anonymous Darren Dennehy - who's he???) on the books, City don't want to lose him either as he's a capable squad member and valued too. If he goes, they'd have to get someone else - probably to sit on the bench - and would they be better than Purse anyway?

For Purse who is 32 in a couple of weeks, he knows he will only get games at Cardiff City if/when Roger Johnson and Gabor Gypes are injured or suspended, both are performing excellently as a partnership. He also knows he'd probably have to find a new club in the summer anyway. He just wants to play and if Charlton or Leeds are sniffing, why wouldn't he be interested?

Whatever way it goes, City will need to him to go immediately if he wishes to move on so they have time to get a replacement. Over to you Darren.
