Today's results could hardly have gone any better for Cardiff City who could only watch on thanks to the early postponement of their fixture at Charlton yet spirits were lifted astwo of their top six rivals lost and the other three drew while The Bluebirds jumped from a place 5th to 4th past Sheffield United without even kicking a ball.
Sheffield United lost 2-1 at home in the Steel City Derby to sworn enemies Sheffield Wednesday giving the Owls a double and comprehensive bragging rights and the impact of their goal difference saw Cardiff rise above them courtesy of a +15 goal difference to their +14. Lovely.
Wolves have been shakier than an Anne Summers vibrator recently and continued their stutters with a shock 2-1 defeat at Coventry, a ground where City won at a canter last week, their defeat made worse as their talisman Sylvain Ebanks-Blake missed an injury time penalty that would have grabbed them a point.
Elsewhere Reading and Preston played out the dllest of stalemates at Madejski, the perfect result for Cardiff while Birmingham City continue with to impress nobody with a point barely deserved at home in a 1-1 draw at Burnley.
These results arguably have increased the race for the automatic promotion berths from 3 sides to 4 as Cardiff trail Wolves by 12 points with 3 games in hand. Reading and Birmingham are 8 and 6 points ahead of City respectively but have 2 games in hand on both.
The Top 10 are all in with a shout of a play-off spot with The Jacks beating Ipswich comfortably at home, the Wurzels winning away while QPR picked up a point on their travels. Those sides are 3 and 4 points adrift of The Bluebirds but City currently enjoy 2 games in hand on all of them and a superior goal difference too.
