I think I’m good holding my breath – I got the lungs and belly for it after all! – and regularly swim lengths underwater in pools and do it in the bath to impress my missus … if only she was. I can do about 2 minutes at my very best.
Blaine is a funny sort. He performs some amazing tricks but will only be known for his human endurance style stunts such as this, being a living statue high in the air, buried underground or entombed in a block of ice. Apparently, his next challenge is to break the record for staying awake which is currently 11.5 days – he’s better not watch Swansea City playing then and he wouldn’t last 10 minutes!!
His most obscure challenge was living in a box near London Bridge back in early Autumn 2003. In typical Brit style, his early experiences were being attacked by onlookers chucking food at his glass cage bringing in extra security. I remember popping along to see him on a day Cardiff City was away at Crystal Palace. When we got there, there wasn’t much of a crowd so we engaged with him and tried getting him to do the ayatollah … as you do.
We shouted at him to predict the score and he held up two fingers on one hand, one on the other. So we put a couple of quid on 2-1 to City. Later that afternoon, City had two sent off and lost 2-1 to Palace.
What a b*****d that Blaine is!
