According to newspaper reports, City midfield hero and villain Steve McPhail has been fined for his needless red card at Swansea's Liberty Stadium last Sunday - which earned criticism from fans and manager - that saw the player issue a public apology. However, with many suggesting he should not remain as Captain - I certainly would change it - the club have decided he can retain that key role.
The size of fine has not been revealed but is unlikely to be the maximum 2 weeks. Fines hurt but if these times of excessive pay for footballers, they survive. However with club captain Darren Purse not playing presently and not even in the 16 last weekend, it does suggest McPhail will waltz straight back into the side when his 2 game ban ends for an encounter at Ipswich Town on Saturday week.
McPhail misses big games home to 6th place Preston this weekend and at 4th place Burnley next Tuesday. There is no news yet of who skipper will be in his absence, many fans would like it to be centre-half shouter Roger Johnson or Joe Ledley but we'll see.
