New Targets (including Ched Evans again) linked to City

Transfer window speculation will be rife over the next month. Cardiff City will feature heavily and already are with Joe Ledley talk almost daily news and Dave Jones' hopes, forlorn or otherwise, to keep Michael Chopra and Wayne Routledge beyond their current loan spells.

In the past 24 hours, however, two players have been linked with the club.

One of them is not new. Ched Evans, Manchester City's highly promising young striker, was a player City tried to bring on loan in the summer. At that time, with Man City in Europe and Mark Hughes unable to get the men he wanted, he was part of the set up. The player started or came on as sub 13 times and scored in a 6-0 victory over Portsmouth but has been overlooked in recent times - a 10 minute subs outing in the past 6 weeks has been the full extent of his first team action in that time.

As Mark Hughes gets ready to unload a treasure chest to bring in more players and stars, Evans may fall even further down the pecking order which would mean business could be done this time. The latest rumour, though, has come from pundit and ex-player Malcolm Allen on a weekend Welsh language sports progamme as he hinted Evans is on the way. Is he right? Time will tell.

Another man linked is one-eyed (yep, you read that right, a childhood accident by all accounts) Hibs midfielder Dean Shiels, scorer of 22 goals in 114 games and with 7 Northern Ireland caps. He's the perfect Cardiff target - 23, playing in Scotland, out of contract in the summer - a path well worn by the likes of Ross McCormack and Kevin McNaughton. City are believed to be facing competition from Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich and Burnley amongst others.
