Alexei Smertin, who turned down a season's loan move to Cardiff City earlier this week, spoke to today's South Wales Echo giving his reasons.

- He only found out of the likely move on the day itself.
- He had no contact from either Fulham or Cardiff about it and learned about the deal being arranged via friends and then locak media.
- He simply was not interested in Championship football.
Smertin had his contract cancelled by mutual consent with The Londoners later same day and is now expected to return to Russia to see out his career.
The loan window opens on Monday and Cardiff City expect to be active in it ... which, on current form, means they will probably do nothing!
