STEVE THOMPSON, the scorer of Cardiff City's only Championship winning goal so far this season, has tonight joined Burnley on a 2 year deal for a small undisclosed fee.
The player has been on the transfer list for over a year, a City cult hero and a 100%'er but never really got the goals. He holds the ball well, loves to run the channels and, on song, has a sublime touch but was never the strongest header of the ball and the out and out target man that his physique would suggest. Amazingly, he seemed to love scoring only against Plymouth, Southampton and Burnley, his City debut came with two goals against them and he scored home and away against them last season .. maybe it's those goals against The Clarets that helped seal the deal.
The Man took on Peter Thorne's "Magic Hat" - wonder who'll get it now? - and confirmed his cult status by penning a Do The Ayatollah Oasis-style F.A. Cup Final song. With new striker additions, Thommo was effectively 5th choice although he got a few minutes at Sheffield United last weekend to sign off. The move has been touted for several days so was no surprise to anyone.
Good Luck Thommo.
