Dennehy's "Unlucky" League Debut

Darren Dennehy had a league debut to forget as he was harshly on the wrong end of an 87th minute penalty award , got booked for his troubles and saw Southend convert to push his loan club, Hereford United, deeper into the League One relegation mire.

The 20 yr old Irishman and Cardiff City centre-half has failed to make a breakthrough, or show any signs of one, at Ninian Park. One of 4 centre-halves at the club, you get the impression he’s 6th or 7th choice as Dave Jones would use midfielders or defenders in that role in the situation required it. After signing from Everton last summer and given this situation, it made sense for club and player to loan him out and get him some league experience.

Hereford snapped him up for a month and gave him his chance of a league debut. By all accounts, he took it well and had a reasonable game. The penalty award against him, where he shown to have tackled cleanly, was a poor decision.

Unlucky Darren but hope he enjoyed the experience and could develop over the remainder of his time.
