Although I'd consider Joe Ledley or Roger Johnson as skipper, it appears that Gavin Rae will be Cardiff City captain in the current absence of both Darren Purse and Steve McPhail.
Darren Purse is club captain and has led on the pitch nearly all season but found himself firstly dropped and, to many, harshly frozen out of the matchday 16 against dropped from the 16 at Swansea City last Sunday.
The 2 game suspension of Steve McPhail will ironically restore Purse to the squad but almost certainly on the bench against Preston this Saturday while "Honey Monster" Gavin Rae will also benefit after being dropped at Swansea by not only being restored to the side but taking over as captain too.
Rae has been captain previously when both other players were not involved and did the role for a while at Rangers too but unless his perfomances improve, he faces a possible two games alongside Joe Ledley in the next few days and the real prospect of losing the captaincy and his place in the team again when Steve McPhail is available for the trip to Ipswich in Saturday week.
Strange times at City indeed.
