Peter Ridsdale has confirmed the worst fears of Cardiff City supporters this morning as Wayne Routledge has declined a permanent move to the Bluebirds.
Although the player was due to remain on loan with City until January 17th, he has been recalled by Aston Villa who confirm they have accepted an offer from another club, almost certainly Championship rivals Queen's Park Rangers, and the player is now in talks with them.
Routledge had a hugely successful 6 week loan spell at City also scoring 2 goals and is believed to have told the club that he wished to stay, Cardiff offering him a 3.5 year loan deal.
However QPR also made their intentions known and, as well as offering Routs a return to his native South East, their mega-money ways may have proved a lure too as the club are believed to have offer him more money that his Premiership contract.
It is a huge blow to City who hoped to keep Chopra and Routledge in a major assault on the Premiership play-offs or automatic promotion. Both played a major part in City's recent climb but have now been lost to the club within days of each other.
City will now look to other targets although, ironically, both men came on loan to cover injuiries to the likes of Jay Bothroyd, Joe Ledley, Peter Whittingham and Ross McCormack who are all fit and available again.
Football life goes on, thanks to both players for their services but their departures will be felt acutely by Cardiff fans and, likely, by the team too.
