The 'are they? aren't they?' stories run over the past couple of days regarding West Ham's interest (or not) in Joe Ledley appear to have taken a big step forward as the Daily Mail exclusively claim that there has been discussions Cardiff and themselves but that The Hammers were firmly told it will take nearer £8M, than £5M, to prise the crown jewel away.
With Joe stating he is flattered by their interest, it seems inevitable Cardiff had to talk to the Cock-er-knees but knowing they were previously offered £6M for the player and that they would have to spend well to replace for a play-off/promotion challenge anyway if he leaves, Peter Ridsdale is right to insist on much more than the Hammers reported bid.
Ominously, the paper believes West Ham may try and bid again at between £6-£7M, a price that may yet see them succeed.
