Almost looking happy & animated
Instead of conducting an Anfield relaxed and upbeat press conference , it appears the strains are starting to tell on DJ. Whilst backing his team, he has to, and showing pride in their display, quotes attributed to Dave Jones in various media showed him to be bristly and nasty - which maybe didn't unduly surprise the 'locals' but certainly surprised the nationals, some of whom to quick to pounce on it.
Wishing journalists a “shit journey home” is not going to do him any favours and he’s being a bit naïve if he thinks a great showing against Liverpool’s reserves plus a couple of stars means everything’s now ok.
The problems in the side – especially in midfield and up front – were as apparent as ever. Spoke to Liverpool fans and, to a man, they all commented how we lacked pace, our play and movement was laboured and one-dimensional apart but they did like Parry, Ledley and Purse.
Jones is struggling to take criticism, even when it is constructive. For a man who doesn’t read newspapers (bollox – why do they come up with tired line?), he sure has plenty to say about them and what they’re writing.
Unfortunately, Dave Jones’ problem is that fans may never have played the game professionally but we’re certainly not fools. Many of us have watched City hundreds of times - my count can't be far off two thousand times in 40 years home and away - to have valid opinions and the same will undoubtedly go for those who make their living writing abut it. And if it wasn’t for us paying hundreds of pounds to follow City, Jones wouldn’t have this job.
He loves the praise when he gets it, he should be big, experienced and ugly enough to deal with the opposite. In both cases, it’s very rare you get it when it’s not deserved from a majority.
No words, arguments or insults will turn this around now,
