Taking The P - Cardiff City's misleading Season Ticket drive nominated for an Award
Although exact figures have never been given by our 'transparent' Board, Cardiff City's Platinum Ambassador Drive is believed to have broght the club circa 11,000 advance season ticket sales worth £3M.
The emphasis of that campaign - and the sole reason for such high returns - is that Peter Ridsdale, Dave Jones and the club PROMISED the money raised would go on new players, prices would be frozen and guaranteed frozen for 5 years and a full refund will be given for next season if the club get promoted in May.
As we, and the whole world now knows, the money has been absorbed to clear debts (and we still haven't been told where it did go), prices will not be frozen but we "may" get a refund if the club get promoted.
As mistruths, decption and, as far as I'm concerned, lies go, it's up there with anything done to football fans ... especially those who follow this club. Utterly distasteful and deserving of condemnation.
So what a shock to see this initiative has been named by the Football league today as a nominee for Best Marketing Campaign!! How stupid and ignorant can they be?
Cardiff are nominated in 3 other categories with only Southend and Huddersfield doing better. Best Digital use for the official website (lord knows why!), Family Club of the Year and Adam Matthews for Apprentice of the Year - the latter two are commendable.
I hope either the club or Football League fast come to their senses and the Marketing Campaign nomination is withdrawn and it is a complete joke and embarrassment.

November 25
Without warning, news emerges that Cardiff City are listed in the High Court with a winding up order from the taxman (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC))
Chairman Peter Ridsdale says the club have paid off “quite a lot of money” and the club were ordered to settle the debt in 70 days before a hearing on February 3.
That night, I questionned him on the Cardiff City phone in show and he told me it was a minor matter, nothing to worry about, they had already paid off most of the debt and the deadline debt of February 3rd was a safety net - yeah right!
November 26
The Football League says it was monitoring Cardiff City’s tax debt but both they and the club refused to confirm a trasnfer embargo was in place ... even though it was!
December 16
The winding up order gets dismissed as Cardiff City and HMRC reached agreement with a repayment schedule.
December 22
City immediately default on the first patyment leaving HMRC to enforce a second winding up order.
January 5
Sluggish advance season ticket sales leads to Peter Ridsdale and Dave Jones to devise a novel scheme promising all season tickets bought will lead to the money being invested in new players, the club aimed to raise £3M. 11,000 fans pay up in good faith.
January 8
HMRC's latest winding up order is set for court for February 10th unless the club pay outstanding debts of £2.7M. Risdale says it will be paid and "guarantees" new players will also be brought to the club. He tells us how we will be seeing a new player parade. What a fantasist!
January 22
Discontent emerges amonsgt the fans with Ridsdale in hiding, not talking to the press and no sign of any new players.
January 27
Ridsdale releases a press statement saying no new players will be coming and apologises for this. It causes an almighty stink3.
January 28
Rumours abound that Ridsdale is going to resign which gathers strength as a press conference is called. However, he pulls a rabbit out of the hat and tells us he is staying. His performance was awful with arrogant answers and no attempt to explain where our season ticket money has gone. All credibility, respect and trust in him has long disappared for him.
February 2
In crisis, the club turn to the council who agree to the selling off land around the stand to get £1.8M.
February 9

Cardiff have 28 day reprieve
When Portsmouth and Cardiff City fought out the 2008 F.A. Cup Final at Wembley with Dave Jones declaring "someone needs shooting if Cardiff don't kick on from that boost", who would have believed that both clubs would be in High Court today, 21 months on, fighting winding up orders.
The reasons why are similar - both outfits chasing the dream gambled with monies they didn't have in the hope it would produce rewards but their financial mismanagement and policy of madness caught up with them.
Portsmouth have 7 days to find a crippling £11.5M owed to the taxman and their future is in the gravest doubt.
Cardiff were given a 28 day reprieve having paid £1.2M of their original debt. They have need to find another £1.4M which should come from sale of land, the Chelsea F.A. Cup tie bringing in another £0.5M and the colub trying to get owed transfer monies early, director investments etc.
They should see the season out - although this is far from guaranteed at present - but whether they can maintain a play-off challenge is now in serious doubt given a threadbare squad they just cannot add to.
The question is where do we go from here?
It seems the club's only hope is major new investment and it doesn't seem as if any will arrive anytime soon, surviving the season and having a firesale of players leading to a poor, weak side next season or, hope against hope, that City can get to the Premier Division somehow.
New investment seems to be as far away as ever. The Malaysians may still be around, many are now doubting their intentions. Everyone else has gone away or was never here.
All today means is that we've barely jumped and nearly fell at the first fence of the Grand National. Whether City get get over the other 27 hurdles is what remains to be seen.
I am genuinely fearful. Today's news didn't change that in the slightest.
