The Football League is currently experiencing its best crowds for almost 50 with with total attendances topping 16 million for a fifth consecutive season with the 2009/09 figure of 16.35M up1% on the previous year.
Leading the way, of course, is the Championship which was watched by 9.9M supporters including closing in on half million at Ninian Park in its final season of football. Championship crowds were up 5% at 17,891 - only the leading divisions in UK (Premier League), Spain and Germany will beat that figure.
Price promotions including Ninian Park's free or cheap season tickets for kids, big clubs and big stadiums helped the cause but with the recession biting hard, clubs will do well to match or better that in the season ahead.
