In today's News of the Screws, City want an answer tooday but Bothroyd is quoted as saying, "I'm not going to rush into anything ... I've got to make the right decision for my family and myself".
Let's not forget however, before assuming a deal is being done this time, that Bothroyd has just messed Leeds United around for a week or more before deciding not to commit and, indeed, an article just published on his own Icons website suggests he is not in a hurry and may not decide where to go until a couple of weeks of the transfer window remains.
Is he yet another using the exposure of "just about to sign for City" as a lever to get someone else jump on board at the last minute?
The prospect of Bothroyd signing for City has largely been met with a lukewarm unimpressed response from City fan. He's seen as a useful squad addition but he hardly fits the bill of the type of forward Dave Jones has been promising all summer. He's also hardly prolific either and his career has been stop-start and misfiring and that would include his latest spell with Wolves where he started just 32 times in 2 seasons but came off the bench another 23 occasions netting 12 goals.
His career has never quite fulfilled the promise shown when Coventry signed him for £1M as a teenager 8 years ago. Since then, he has started just 110 league games - an average of less than 14 starts per season. He has netted 34 league goals but this includes 78 sub outings.
Few doubt his ability and talent but he does appear to be lacking in attitude and commitment. Let's hope Dave Jones can find that extra spark that others haven't quite managed.
